  4.                   Fees for Distribution of Shareware Versions
  5.  
  6. Disk Vendors, Shareware Distributors and BBS(s) may have charged a nominal
  7. fee for the distribution of this Shareware version of Jasc ImageCommander.
  8. This fee does not constitute payment for the Licensed version of Jasc
  9. ImageCommander, and does not entitle the end user to use the shareware
  10. version for longer than the 30 day evaluation period.

  13.                            Definition of Shareware

  15. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying
  16. it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are required
  17. to register it (or purchase the licensed version as in the case of Jasc
  18. ImageCommander).

  20. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  21. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
  22. stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
  23. retail authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases,
  24. there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method
  25. of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and
  26. distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group.
  27. For example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
  28. disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  30. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  31. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  32. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  33. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  34. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use
  35. the product, you don't pay for it.

  89. BY USING THE SHAREWARE VERSION OF JASC IMAGECOMMANDER YOU 
  90. ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS LIMITED WARRANTY, 
  91. UNDERSTAND IT, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ITS' TERMS AND 
  92. CONDITIONS. YOU ALSO AGREE THAT THE LIMITED WARRANTY IS THE 
  93. COMPLETE AND EXCLUSIVE STATEMENT OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE 
  94. PARTIES AND SUPERSEDE ALL PROPOSALS OR PRIOR AGREEMENTS, ORAL 
  95. OR WRITTEN, AND ANY OTHER COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE PARTIES

  99. PATENTED LZW COMPRESSION TECHNOLOGY IN THE TIFF AND GIF IMAGE 
  100. FILE FORMATS. THIS AGREEMENT COVERS BOTH THE SHAREWARE AND 
  101. LICENSED VERSIONS OF JASC PRODUCTS. BY USING JASC PRODUCTS YOU 
  102. ARE ASSURED OF BEING IN COMPLIANCE WITH UNISYS' LZW PATENT.

  104. OUR AGREEMENT WITH UNISYS REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT 
  105. TO BE INCLUDED WITH ALL SHAREWARE VERSIONS. PLEASE NOTE THAT 
  106. ALTHOUGH PARAGRAPH 2 STATES THAT OUR PRODUCTS CAN NOT BE 
  107. USED FROM A NETWORK SERVER, THE AGREEMENT THAT JASC HAS 
  108. SECURED WITH UNISYS WILL (I REPEAT, WILL) ALLOW YOU TO OPERATE 
  109. THE LICENSED VERSION ON YOUR NETWORK SERVER PROVIDED YOU 
  110. HAVE PURCHASED A SITE LICENSE.

  112. Use of this software is permitted only to the extent reasonably required
  113. to determine whether to purchase the software.

  115. After payment is made, use of this software is limited to use on only a
  116. single personal computer or workstation which is not used as a server.  An
  117. additional payment is required for each use on another personal computer or
  118. workstation.

  120. Only a single copy may be made of this software solely for backup or
  121. archival purposes. The software may also be transferred to a single hard
  122. disk.

  124. Any use of this software in violation of the above is not licensed.

  136.                        Installing Jasc ImageCommander
  137.  
  138. Before you can use Jasc ImageCommander you have to run the Jasc
  139. ImageCommander setup program from Windows so it will work properly on your
  140. computer. You cannot just copy the files from the Jasc ImageCommander disk
  141. to your hard disk.  The files on the distribution disks are compressed to
  142. save space. The setup program unpacks those files and builds them on your
  143. working disk.
  144.  
  145. Under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, follow these steps for installation:
  146.  
  147.  1) If Windows isn't running, start it now.
  148.  2) If installing from diskette, insert the Jasc ImageCommander disk 1 into
  149.     the appropriate floppy drive.
  150.  3) Click on the Start button on the Taskbar. Windows will open the Start
  151.     menu.
  152.  4) Click on the Start menu's "Run" selection. Windows will open the "Run"
  153.     dialog box.
  154.  5) If installing from a floppy drive type the drive letter of the floppy
  155.     drive containing the Jasc ImageCommander files followed by ":\SETUP.EXE",
  156.     or if you have downloaded Jasc ImageCommander, type the path to the
  157.     unzipped files followed by "\SETUP.EXE".
  158.  6) Click on the "OK" button. Windows will run the Jasc ImageCommander setup 
  159.     program.
  160.  7) Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

  162. Under Windows 3.1 (with Win32s) or Windows NT 3.51, follow these steps for 
  163. installation:
  164.  
  165.  1) If Windows isn't running, start it now.
  166.  2) If installing from diskette, insert the Jasc ImageCommander disk 1 into

  168.  3) From Program Manager, open the File menu and select the Run command.

  177. NOTE: In order to use Jasc ImageCommander under Windows 3.1, you MUST 
  178. have Win32s version 1.3 or newer installed.  This file can be obtained from 
  179. Microsoft, as well as from the JASC web site.

  184. In order to keep the size of the Shareware version of Jasc ImageCommander
  185. reasonable, no printable user's manual has been provided. You will find that
  186. help for ALL menu items and associated dialog boxes, along with general
  187. information, is provided in the online help system.

  189. When you purchase the licensed version of Jasc ImageCommander you will
  190. receive the fully illustrated, perfect bound User's Guide.

  243. You are encouraged to pass a copy of the shareware version of Jasc
  244. ImageCommander along to your friends for evaluation.

  246. If you do so, you must provide them with the entire set of Jasc
  247. ImageCommander shareware version files. These include:

  255. Do not simply copy the files off your hard drive. Jasc ImageCommander
  256. must be installed using the SETUP program or it will not function correctly!

  259. requirements of the VENDOR.DOC file.

  262.                        Purchasing the Licensed Version
  263.  
  264. You may use the shareware version of Jasc ImageCommander for a 30 day trial
  265. period.  If you would like to continue to use Jasc ImageCommander after the
  266. 30 day trial period, you are required to purchase the licensed version of
  267. Jasc ImageCommander.

  269. When you purchase Jasc ImageCommander you will receive the latest licensed
  270. version and the printed user's guide.

  272. Jasc ImageCommander may be purchased from a number of sources.

  274. To obtain the listing of vendors, and print an order form:

  276. 2. At the shareware startup screen press the "Order Jasc ImageCommander"
